Steel Challenge - Perryville, AR

Steel Challenge is the best way to get started in competitive shooting, to have fun, and to improve your shooting skills. It requires participants to rapidly engage targets made from armor plate at relatively close distances. There is no requirement to move while shooting and the rules are very simple: When the buzzer sounds, shoot every target at least once as rapidly as you can. You don’t need a bunch of fancy equipment and most shooters compete with off-the-shelf semi-auto .22LR caliber pistols so the ammo is pretty cheap. Matches are only $10 to enter.

Dave Geilbogis runs a good outlaw match - a no nonsense match for fun and still safe. This is an outlaw match mainly to keep it moving - Dave calls it a "No Whining" match. Shoot what you can and have fun. If a target is disabled, shoot where it was/should be and move on. That's why it is an outlaw match but it runs great and great place to send a 250 rounds down range.

Gerneally there are 5 stages. One stage is demands 200 meter shots over 4 or 5 positions, two stages are CQB and two are mixed close and long range (150 yards).

John Zaslof runs a good match at a good range. There are 6 stages with average of 28 - 32 rounds per stage of mixed targets - paper, steel, Texas Stars and movers. The shooting areas have western theme props - hitching posts, Boot Hill Grave yard, gallows, mineshafts and boardwalks with windows to shoot through - which makes this match a little different than shooting at your usual 3-sided pit.

Five stages are set up with each stage being shot 5 times. Only the fastest 4 times are recorded. Each stage consists of anywhere from 2 to 5 steel non-reactive plates (plates that do not fall over). Each stage will have one stop plate (last plate shot) and the rest are shot according to the course of fire. There are no scoring zones on the plates, so a partial impact will count as a score-able hit.

Liberty Prairie Regulators Cowboy Action Match

Liberty Prairie Regulators have been hosting Cowboy Action Shooting matches at the Ripon Rifle and Pistol Club since 2000. We are affiliated with the Single Action Sooting Society and follow SASS rules. Cowboy Action Shooting is the world's fastest growing shooting sport. Using six-shooters, lever-action rifles, and vintage shotguns, we shoot steel targets with lead bullets. The faster you shoot, the better--but misses add time to your score! Matches are held the third Saturday of every month April-October. Sign-up starts at 8:30am with a mandatory safety meeting at 9:00am.

Central Fl Muzzleloading Rifle

Taking a step back and slowing down some. Before cartridge firearms, all guns were muzzleloaders, and we shoot the old ones and the reproductions. Anyone can put a cartridge in a gun and blow the X-ring out of a target, but, to use loose powder, I use pillow ticking, and a homemade round ball, and then tear the X-ring out of that target, well, the satisfaction level is so far off of the charts, you might not be able to find your way back.
