IDPA is a draw from the holster, action shooting sport that stresses cover, concealment, and tactics in field courses that take the shooter through real-life simulations of self-defense scenarios. IDPA courses of fire are never the same. Props are used to simulate cars, doors and walls for realism. TSSA may includes rifle and/or shotgun elements in some of the matches.

Action Rifle Match - Brooksville

Dave Geilbogis runs a good outlaw match - a no nonsense match for fun and still safe. This is an outlaw match mainly to keep it moving - Dave calls it a "No Whining" match. Shoot what you can and have fun. If a target is disabled, shoot where it was/should be and move on. That's why it is an outlaw match but it runs great and great place to send a 250 rounds down range.

Gerneally there are 5 stages. One stage is demands 200 meter shots over 4 or 5 positions, two stages are CQB and two are mixed close and long range (150 yards).

Defensive Pistol League - Frostproof, FL

USADPL is my incarnation of what a defensive pistol match should be. It will be a great place to test your REAL carry gear in more realistic scenarios. It will also be a place for IDPA practice and general practice as well. It will be geared to the newer shooter interested in using their gun and gear in a more dynamic environment. Stages will be relatively simple and it will also be a good avenue for anyone interested in getting started in competition shooting. At least in the beginning I will keep the match round count under 50 rounds.

Steel Challenge - Perryville, AR

Steel Challenge is the best way to get started in competitive shooting, to have fun, and to improve your shooting skills. It requires participants to rapidly engage targets made from armor plate at relatively close distances. There is no requirement to move while shooting and the rules are very simple: When the buzzer sounds, shoot every target at least once as rapidly as you can. You don’t need a bunch of fancy equipment and most shooters compete with off-the-shelf semi-auto .22LR caliber pistols so the ammo is pretty cheap. Matches are only $10 to enter.
